Fire Safety in the Workplace

PAT Testing for Holiday Parks in Exeter

Holiday parks in and around Exeter have hundreds of electrical appliances spread across guest lodges, caravans, clubhouses, laundry rooms and maintenance buildings. Each one needs to be safe for guests and staff to use. PAT testing checks the structural integrity of every portable electrical appliance and its ability to regulate power safely. We test holiday parks across Exeter and the wider Devon area, working around your peak seasons to minimise disruption.

What a Holiday Park PAT Test Covers

Our City & Guilds certified engineers carry out a visual examination of each appliance, checking the casing, cable, plug and fuse for any signs of damage. Depending on the construction of the appliance, we then run up to three electrical tests: earth continuity, insulation resistance and polarity checks.

Holiday parks have a broader mix of equipment than a typical office. Kettles and toasters in every self-catering unit, commercial washing machines in a shared laundry, pool pumps, entertainment systems in a clubhouse and outdoor electrical equipment around the grounds all need testing. Our engineers work through every unit methodically so nothing gets missed. For a fuller picture of what needs PAT testing, our guide breaks it down by appliance type.

Scheduling Around Peak Season

Most holiday parks in the Exeter area run at full capacity through the summer months and school holidays. We recommend booking PAT testing for quieter periods, typically early spring or late autumn, so testing can happen without affecting guest bookings or occupancy. We also offer out-of-hours and weekend appointments at no extra charge, which gives you flexibility if testing needs to happen between changeovers.

Under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, you are responsible for making sure all electrical equipment on your premises is safe to use. Scheduling testing proactively means you stay on top of that obligation without disrupting your business.

How We Test Across Multiple Units and Buildings

A holiday park is not one building. It could be 50, 100 or more individual units plus shared facilities. Our engineers plan the route through your site in advance so every unit, building and communal area is covered efficiently. You receive a certificate and itemised report for the whole site, with every appliance listed alongside its test result. Where an appliance fails, the report includes the reason and a recommendation.

Failed appliances are labelled and removed from use where practicable, so guests and staff are not exposed to faulty equipment between the test and the repair.

How Often Holiday Parks Need PAT Testing

How often you should carry out PAT testing depends on four factors: how often the equipment is used, the environment it is used in, who is using it and the lifespan of the equipment. Holiday parks fall into a higher-use category because guest turnover means appliances are handled by different people constantly, and the equipment sees more wear and tear than in a single-occupier setting.

We recommend a frequency based on your specific site conditions and will remind you when your next test is due.
