Duty of Care Under Northern Ireland Regulations 

PAT testing is not a mandatory legal requirement for commercial premises in Northern Ireland, but the Electricity at Work Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1991 place a duty on employers to keep electrical equipment maintained in a safe condition. For a venue, that duty extends to any portable kit staff or delegates come into contact with, and insurers, licensing officers and corporate clients regularly ask for evidence that testing is up to date before signing off on a booking.
