Fire Alarm Testing and
Servicing with Hawkesworth
- Dedicated Account Manager
- Enhanced DBS-checked engineers
- Calibrated equipment on every visit
- Pass / fail clearly labelled
Hawkesworth provides planned commercial fire alarm testing, servicing and maintenance for commercial and public-sector customers across the UK and Ireland. Our fire alarm maintenance keeps your system reliable and compliant, and before we attend site, we agree the scope, panel and system details, access requirements and your procedures, so testing fits around how your building operates.
On arrival, our engineers sign in, confirm testing arrangements and notify your monitoring centre before placing the system on test where applicable. We inspect the control panel for faults or warnings, check indicators, zone information and power supply, then test devices, including manual call points, smoke and heat detectors, sounders and visual alarms, confirming signals are correctly received at the panel.
Once testing is complete, the system is reset and returned to normal operating condition, and your monitoring centre is informed that work has finished. Any faults or non-compliant equipment identified during the visit are recorded electronically, and relevant site contacts are informed promptly of anything that may affect the system or your fire safety arrangements.
You’ll receive electronic service records and certification appropriate to the work completed, along with dedicated account support and reminders to help you keep your testing programme on track. Whether you manage a single premises or a multi-site estate, we’ll work with you to minimise disruption while keeping your fire alarm system reliable.

FAQs
Questions, answered
How often should a fire alarm be tested and serviced?
This depends on your system type and the guidance in BS 5839. Many commercial systems are tested weekly by site staff, with periodic servicing carried out by a competent engineer. We’ll agree a suitable programme for your premises.
What parts of the system are tested?
Testing typically covers the control panel, power supply, manual call points, detectors, sounders and visual alarms, confirming that signals are correctly received and the system operates as expected.
Will the alarm sound during testing?
Yes, testing usually involves activating alarms briefly to confirm they’re working. We notify your monitoring centre beforehand and agree timing with you to help manage any disruption.
What happens if a fault is identified?
Any fault is recorded and your site contact is informed promptly, so you can decide on next steps. We can quote for and carry out remedial work where needed.
