EICR (Fixed Wire Testing)

with Hawkesworth

Hawkesworth provides nationwide commercial EICR, also known as fixed wire testing, for commercial, public-sector and multi-site organisations across the UK and Ireland. Every inspection is carried out by 18th Edition and 2391 qualified electricians in accordance with BS 7671, testing the safety and condition of your fixed electrical installation.

Our 18th Edition and 2391 qualified electricians carry out a full inspection and test of your electrical installation in accordance with BS 7671. This includes a full visual inspection, checking continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance, RCD operation and prospective fault current, along with dismantling a sample of accessories to inspect internal wiring and terminations. Any observations are coded C1, C2, C3 or FI, so you know exactly what needs attention and how urgently.

If we find a C1 observation representing immediate danger, we’ll rectify or isolate it before leaving site. Every EICR goes through Quality Supervisor technical review before it’s issued, giving you an extra layer of quality assurance. You’ll receive your NICEIC-format EICR electronically, typically within 10 working days of completion, along with clear coding and recommendations to support your next steps. Whether you manage a single site or a national estate, we’ll work with you to minimise disruption and keep your electrical installation compliant.

FAQs

Questions, answered

What is an EICR / fixed wire test?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a formal inspection and test of your fixed electrical installation, checking it against the current wiring regulations, BS 7671. It identifies any damage, deterioration or non-compliance that could present a safety risk.

This depends on the type of premises and how the installation is used. Manufacturing premises are typically tested every three years, commercial premises every five years, and higher-risk environments more frequently. We can advise on the right interval for your site.
Some tests may require circuits to be temporarily isolated. We’ll agree shutdown needs and suitable timing with you in advance, so any disruption to your operations is planned and minimised.
C1 means danger present, requiring immediate action. C2 means potentially dangerous, requiring urgent remedial work. C3 is an improvement recommended, and FI means further investigation is needed. We’ll explain any coding on your report in plain terms.
